06Sep05 - A relaxing weekend

The picture is of the Old Town Tavern in Wethersfield. We haven't been there yet but apparently it can be alot of fun.

We spent the weekend relaxing and hanging out withe the dogs. We figured with the way the oil companies were gouging for gas after Katrina that we would lay low and stay close to home. We did take a drive down to Old Saybrook on the coast to take the dogs for a walk. It was a quaint little town that had some interesting shops at the mouth of the Connecticut river.

I have found the whole Katrina thing a little overwhelming. Initially when the storm hit the reaction was somewhat positive here in the fact that it wasn't as big a hit as anticipated. Unfortunately when the levees gave way the true enormity of the situation unfurled. It truly is a devastating situation for the people involved and I really do wish them all well.

I have been in contact with my buddy Eric who is in Thailand (and has been for more than a month now). He has been to some of the areas that were destroyed by the Tsunami there and says they are still in the process of rebuilding. Is suspect it will take years before the Gulf Coast area that was damaged is rebuilt. I just hope they ensure better escape routes for the future!

The weather has settled into a nice pattern of low 80's with lower humidity! Yippeeeee! I think I'll try to get out to the golf course one day this week and see if I can't do some gardening while I'm there!

I think next weekend we'll be taking a trip to Mystic, CT. If you have seen the movie Mystic Pizza (with Julia Roberts) that's where we're going. It's on the coast and apparently the Pizza place really exists and serves a pretty good piece of pizza pie.
